Polygamy was officially criminalized in Vietnam during the 1950s, with a lengthy prison sentence as punishment. Polygamy is reportedly no longer practiced in the country, though has had its roots in the past among the Hmong people.
While a second marriage can be successful, it's still a relationship composed of two imperfect people. It is still bound to have some of the same relationship issues that we all face from time to time. It can be a challenge if wounds from old relationships aren't quite healed.
As for a Hindu or a person who practices Hinduism, polygamy is both prohibited and illegal. Both under the Indian Law and as per the Hindu Marriage Act. Now, it's illegal for a Hindu to marry more than one person or keeping two spouses at the same time.
As per Hindu Marriage Act 1957, anyone cannot marry second time without divorce. The conditions necessary to recognize marriage as valid are discussed in Section 5 of the Hindu Marriage Act.

Family Law Implications of Polygamy
All U.S. jurisdictions prohibit polygamy by invalidating marriages involving more than two spouses. State laws against bigamy—getting married to someone while still legally married to another person—are usually grounds for an annulment.
Bigamy is marrying someone who has already been legally married to another living person. A person cannot legally marry someone with a living spouse who is still legally married to them. A second marriage will be declared void ab initio, which means that it is null and void from the start.
In societies that practice polygamy, the specific type is polygyny, which is having more than one wife (polyandrous unions, of having more than one husband, are much less common). Muslim societies allow for up to four wives, but not without specific rules and regulations.
